The Oakley In Residence exhibition was a studio and pop-up skate park that celebrated the culture of skateboarding in its hometown. From the depths of the Pink Motel to the sets of Santa Monica, we paid tribute to the iconic spots that paved the way for skating today. Los Angeles is a city that thrives on original thinking and its influence on skate culture can be felt worldwide.
As one of 8 participating artists I created the icons and imagery for a flag to represent Gardner School in Hollywood. Garder is famous with skaters for its lunch tables which skaters use as obstacles. I drew upon the natural letter-form of the bench, a mural in the school yard, and the school auditorium named after Michael Jackson to create the final artwork.
The exhibition started as test marketing initiative by Oakley that was so well received, Oakley pushed the prject into a gobal marketing campaign.
